Prof. Steven Kuehl is the leader of Sediment Geochronology and Seabed Processes group at VIMS， and his primary research centers on sediment dispersal and the accumulation of fine-grained sediments in continental margin environments. In addition to projects currently being carried out in Chesapeake Bay, he is also focused on sediment dispersal from tectonically active continental margins. Areas such as the North Island, New Zealand, and South Asia, which discharge huge volumes of sediment to narrow continental shelves where, presumably, active bypassing to the deep sea occurs. In this talk, he will present recent research progress on sediment dispersal and accumulation on the Northern Andaman Sea continental shelf, off the Ayeyarwady and Thanlwin Rivers, where they carried out the investigation using seabed, water column, and high-resolution seismic data collected in December 2017.
